Will The Fork Mount Thule FastRide Roof Bike Rack TH95JV Work With 9mm Quick Release Out Of The Box?

Updated 07/31/2025 | Published 07/21/2025

Question:

I have a Thule FastRide 564005. Apparently it is not made to work with a classic old-style 9mm quick release front fork. Is that correct? If not, is there a way to change it, or do I need a different mount?

Hi Jan!

The Thule FastRide Roof Bike Rack for 1 Bike - Fork Mount # TH95JV (their part number 564005), will work with bikes that have a 9mm quick-release skewer or 9mm captive out of the box. If you have a 9mm thru-axle though, you will need the # TH58BV adapter kit.

Are you planning on keeping the front wheel in your vehicle? We do have the Front Wheel Holder # TH98BV that would allow you to keep it on the roof with your bike.

Also, what kind of bike are you looking to put on your roof?

Thanks for the answer. The Thule instructions explicitly say/show it is NOT for traditional 9mm QR forks. So they need to fix the instructions or perhaps dealers should explain this prior to purchase! The fork fitting with the ratcheting lock works fine on my 3Rensho and Jamis Dragon bikes (steel is real!).

@JanL Haven't heard the Jamis name in quite a while! I knew a couple people that rode them when I did the X-Terra offroad triathlons in the early 2000s. Definitely nice bikes. My family always had GT stuff, but it sounds like they might be going away. Sad times for sure. As for the instruction, I will let Thule know. I hadn't even check them as we recommend this for 9mm quick release skewers pretty often and have never had any kind of issues with them. Thule even lists it as being fine on their website (I just double checked), so I am thinking the instructions are out of date or something. Thanks for letting me know!
