Recommended Brake Controller and Plug In Harness for a 2014 Acura MDX

Updated 07/25/2025 | Published 07/20/2025

Question:

I have a 2014 Acura MDX with a factory hitch and 7 pin harness tow package. Im looking at the REDarc tow pro Liberty brake controller, but the separate harness says its only good for MDXs up to 2013. Will this still work? Ive seen others say the harness will work even though their year vehicle isnt listed. Also, do i need anything else for it all to work assuming the connection point is available under the dashboard? Thanks

Hey David. I do have a couple of harnesses that will allow you to install the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty item # RED24FR without cutting or splicing wires, however the Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness item # RED59FR will not work on the 2014 MDX. It only worked on the 2007 - 2012 model years with the factory tow package.

To install the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty item # RED24FR in your 2014 Acura MDX you'll need the following adapters:

Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers item # 3028-P

Redarc Tow-Pro Wiring Adapter for Tekonsha Brake Controller Harness item # 331-TPH-017

Additionally, the connector you're looking for is under the dash to the left of the steering column near the top of the e-brake pedal.

What kind of trailer do you have?

I have a 1 axle camper trailer. I saw another user state that the Redarc harness for the MDX will work but two of the wires need to be switched and it works great. If that doesn’t work I will try these two harnesses. Thank you!

@DavidM You're welcome! Yeah, I haven't heard anything about that. The connectors do like identical though.
