Recommended Weight Distribution System for a 5,000 lbs Jayco Travel Trailer

Updated 07/18/2025 | Published 07/15/2025

Question:

Recommendation on a wdh for a 2006 silverado 1500 hd pulling a 2024 Jayco 173mrb. Gross weight of 4900 and TW of 490. Pulls ok without a wdh but would like a little help with more stability and weight distribution. Would like something that i may be able to also use with my 16 ft Kaufmann car hauler.

Hey Bill. For your 2024 Jayco 173MRB trailer, I recommend the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - 7-Hole Shank item # BLU47FR. This system has built in sway control that will help with the stability. It works with tongue weights between 600 lbs - 800 lbs so you'll also be able to use it on your 16 ft Kaufmann car hauler.

Please note that the L brackets on the Blue Ox TrackPro item # BLU47FR mount 20" - 25" back from the center of the coupler along your trailer's tongue. You'll want to measure to be sure these will clear your propane tanks.

How far back from your coupler is the back of the box on your Jayco's tongue?

Thanks Jerrod! I appreciate your recommendation. Too hitches out there and needed some guidance to narrow it down.
