Sealant To Prevent Rain From Entering The Seam Over A Door And Awning

Updated 08/07/2025 | Published 07/14/2025

Question:

I was wondering what is the best product to use to seal a rain rail seam that is over my door, and awning and leaks down the inside of the outside door. Why they put the seam there in the first place is baffling. I have used silicone with no satisfactory result. I think I need to layer in a sealant to stop the leak

Hi Greg!

If the silicone didn't work very well, I think the LaSalle Bristol XTRM Universal Self-Leveling Sealant - White - 10.1 oz # 34427034145-1 would be a better option. We use this when we install roof vents, and things of that nature, and have had very good results. This will be a much better option.

If the water is coming in between your door seal and the door though, you could also grab the TRC D-Shaped Rubber Seal for Enclosed Trailer - Stick On - 25' Long x 1/2" Tall 362WS1463-25. I have had people use this on car doors and it worked quite well.

What kind of trailer are you working on?
