Do I Have to Remove the Gooseneck Ball from the Puck System Before Install a 5th Wheel Hitch?

Updated 08/07/2025 | Published 07/13/2025

Question:

I have a 2020 Ram 2500. I have pitched a BandW companion hitch for it. My truck has a moose goose neck ball that is stuck in the bed. Since the hitch will utilize the puck system on my truck, will it be ok to leave the ball in?

Hey Scott. That's a lot to unpack and I have a couple questions. Leaning towards my answer being a hard no though. I am not sure what a moose gooseneck ball is but if your 2020 Ram 2500 has the factory puck system then you'll definitely need to get it out to install either the B&W Companion item # BWRVK3670 for a slider or item # BWRVK3600. The Companion hitches mount directly to the pucks and do not leave much space between the bed and the 5th wheel hitch.

What's a moose gooseneck ball, does your Ram truck have the factory puck system, and how long is your truck bed?

Hey Scott, did you manage to get the moose gooseneck ball out of your Ram's bed? I'm curious to know how it all worked out for you, as it might help others facing a similar situation.
