Looking for RV AC Unit that is Compatible with Top Down Setup without Air Distribution Box

Updated 12/01/2025 | Published 07/09/2025

Question:

Im looking for a replacement AC for my RV. It needs to be a 15,000 BTU ducted unit, black in color. It also has to be a Top-Down mount unit, as there is no inside ADB. Which models should I be looking for?

Hey Lewis, we don't have any solutions for top down applications at this time but soon we hopefully will. Once we get the GE low profile RV AC units available those will work for top down like what you have. What RV do you have though and what year? We have been trying to get a better idea which RVs have this style.

My RV is a 2013 Jayco Seismic with 3 AC's (middle AC is top-down). We previously had a Coleman Mach in the middle location and had it replaced with a Furrion Chill 6 years ago. The service tech installed the Furrion in a top-down configuration. I recently spoke with Furrion and they said their AC's are not designed to be installed as a top-down unit ??? I told them I had one installed in that manner and they couldn't comment on how that was done. I want to ensure the needed replacement will be designed to work as Top-Down installation.

@LewisM That's amazing the Furrion was able to be installed like that. I've asked them similar questions and they've told me exact same thing. Makes me wonder how your installer pulled that off but most likely he wired the upper unit to whatever was there previously and was able use wiring diagrams to match everything up. At one point we though that was a more successful route but with recent moves to different refrigerants etc. its really not a reliable way to go.

@JamesonC I'm fairly certain there was no wiring modifications done, as the Furrion Wiring Adapter Kit was used to connect to the AC control box mounted (Coleman?) in the ceiling cavity. I "think" the Furrion was somehow attached to the roof using lag bolts into the roof framing like the previous Coleman Mach was attached. I spoke with Coleman(AirExcel) and they stated they actually do make a Top-Down mounting kit for their models. I guess the easiest answer will be to go back on the roof and remove the cover to the AC and determine how the Furrion was attached to the roof. Once I have a chance to do this, I'll repost how it is currently attached and maybe you can follow-up with Furrion.

@@lewism Yeah that would be awesome. We'd love to know more as we are getting more top down questions and we haven't been able to come up with a good solution for them unfortunately.
