Best Suspension Enhancement Option For A 2022 Ram Promaster Loaded Heavier On One Side

Updated 07/09/2025 | Published 07/02/2025

Question:

We have a 2022 Ram Promaster Van, 1500, 136” wheel base. The VIN is 3C6LRVBG2NE109415. The GVWR is 8550 lbs. We recently had it weighed at 5780 lbs. after we installed some steel shelving and tools primarily on the left side for our handyman business. We intend to keep the van loaded with the shelving and tools most of the time. We probably will add some more tools and materials with time. We will occasionally tow a 20’ motor boat and trailer. The van now has a slight list to the left. What suspension enhancement would you recommend? Thank you for your advice.

I can definitely help you with that!

For your 2022 Ram Promaster 1500, I highly recommend air bags. The Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs - Rear Axle # AL57233 are a fit for your van and since they can be adjusted individually, they will be the best option for you. Especially since you don't tow all the time and may change how the interior load is laid out in the future. You can dial them to whatever you need at the time.

You could add a compressor unit to adjust the air pressure on the fly, but you would need a dual path option so each bag can be adjusted individually. Something like the Air Lift Load Controller Compressor System for Air Helper Springs - Dual Path # AL25856 would do the job very nicely. However, compressors are fairly expensive and if you already have some kind of air compressor for your handyman business, you could absolutely just use that. The bags just use schrader valves at the end of the air lines, so it's pretty easy.

Do you have a specific area of interest for your handyman business or is it kind of more all encompassing?

Thank you for the recommendation.  We’ll study it. We would never have thought of air bags.
