Why Won't My Fan Shut off on My Furrion 13,500 BTU with Manual Air Distribution Box?

Updated 09/08/2025 | Published 06/05/2025

Question:

This unit has been installed on my 2024 keystone cougar 23 MLE. It is installed in the front bedroom. It is not connected to the other air conditioner in the trailer. This unit is completely manually operated, not connected to the thermostat in the RV. I set the unit to cool and moved the temperature dial to about halfway. The compressor turns on and cold air starts coming out like it should. Once the room cools down the compressor turns off and it seems that the fan then just continues to run. it seems that the entire unit should shut off once the set temperature is reached. This does not seem to be occurring. The compressor turns off and then the fan runs continuously until the compressor needs to turn back on again. This unit is not hooked into my duct system. The dump valve on the unit is completely open to prevent possible freezing up of the unit. You can see from my pictures that the temperature sensor is sitting in the middle of the return side airstream. The sensor is not touching anything. Shouldnt this unit turn off completely once the set temperature is reached?

Hello Dan,

There’s a good reason why the fan isn’t shutting off. Because the Furrion Chill HE RV Air Conditioner System - Manual - 13,500 Btu - Black - R32 # FR52TD includes a manual air distribution box the fan will not turn off automatically. The temperature sensor only controls the compressor, which is why you hear it shut off once the desired temperature is reached. However, the fan in the manual air distribution box continues to run until the entire system is manually powered down.

The only way to have the fan shut off automatically is to switch to a thermostat-controlled air distribution box, such as the Replacement Air Distribution Box for Furrion Chill RV Air Conditioners - Electric Control - R32 # FR68TD, used with the Controller # FR98TD, and the Replacement Wall Thermostat for Furrion Chill HE RV Air Conditioner - Single Zone - Black - R32 # FR88TD.

I’m sorry to hear you weren’t made aware that the fan doesn’t completely power off with the manual setup before purschasing.

Have a big adventure planned with the new AC? If so, where are you headed?

Hey Dan, Did you decide to switch to a thermostat-controlled air distribution box for your AC? I'm curious to know if it helped with the fan issue, as it could give others confidence when considering similar upgrades.
