Can I Replace a UFP A-70 Surge Brake Actuator w/ the Replacement Inner Member for Dexter DX7.5L?

Updated 05/15/2025 | Published 05/14/2025

Question:

Hi there. I have a 2006 IMF boat trailer with a UFP A-70 surge brake actuator. This is a tandem axle trailer with disc brakes. From what I can tell, the difference between the A-60 and the A-70 is the A-70 has a GVWR of 7,000 pounds versus 6,000 for the A-60. Will the DX99FR work for my application? I assume the pin placements for the sleeve are the same for the A-70 vs. A-60 but would love to confirm before I order. Thank you!

Thanks for the pictures Brian. Yes, you are correct the Replacement Inner Member for Dexter DX7.5L Actuator item # DX99FR will replace your UFP A-70 surge brake actuator.

The A-"number" was for the weight capacity of the coupler; an A-60 was rated for 6K and an A-70 was rated for 7K. In the recent past Dexter consolidated everything to be rated for 7.5K so this swap will work and fit.

What kind of boat do you have?

Thank you for the quick response, Jerred! The trailer is the OEM trailer for my 2006 Yamaha AR 230HO.
