Replacement Power Converter For A Parallax/MagneTek 6300 Series Model 6345
Updated 08/11/2025 | Published 05/10/2025 >
Question:
My 1988 trailer currently has a functioning series 6300 A model 6345 power converter with battery charger It doesnt have a brand name but it is original to the trailer. When not using shore power, I run off two 24M-AGM 885MCA, 120RC batteries. I want to upgrade the power converter to something more modern If for no other reason than for more efficient charging. I also plan to install two 100W solar panels into the system. What do you recommend for replacing the power converter? FYI: when the AGM batteries die I do hope to convert to lithium ion. Thank you.

Hey Kent,
That original power converter, although unnamed, is a Parallax or MagneTek brand converter. They are different companies but essentially the same part, or identical parts. With that said we do have a Progressive Dynamics Power Converter, # PD4645V, that would be a great upgrade and direct replacement for that model that you have. You'll be all set with solar as well, the converter would not play a factor in that system.
It is going to be compatible with your current AGM batteries, and be a great unit for the lithium ones you get down the road. Its got a built in charge wizard that's going to automatically kick in and start charging when needed. If yours is originally from 88' but still working, this is going to be a solid replacement with better efficiency that will last just as long.
Are you looking for a portable solar set up or more of a permanent install? We have those as well I can look for a few good options depending on what style you are wanting.

Yes, I would be interested in a permanent solar install. My trailer is small (15 foot), so real estate on the roof is at a premium. Currently I have two 100W solar panels kit that came with a Renogy ROVER 40A MPPT solar charge controller. Separately I purchased a Renogy 700W Pure Sine Wave Inverter. I thought this would be enough, but I need more power for off-grid applications. Depending on the size of the panels, I could fit either 2 large panels or maybe 4 small (42" x 21" panels like the panels I have now). Thank you.
