Question:
Need advice on what roof rack and accessories to get for carrying an Old Town PDL 106 fishing kayak on roof of my 2019 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4door. I currently have Rhino Rack Vortex SG 2 bars for surfboard attachment but not sure what to get to support weight of kayak and keep my roof safe. looking into the backbone system but still confused on what attachments to get to secure the kayak properly. Thanks in advance!

Hey Nikki, I looked up the weight of your Old Town PDL 106 fishing kayak and it weighs 107 lbs which for that you'd want the Yakima Big Catch Fishing Kayak Carrier part # Y04091 as it has a 150 lb weight capacity.
Your Rhino Rack Vortex crossbars have a 165 lb weight capacity so you have the weight covered with that too but you should make sure you have the roof capacity on your Wrangler based on the roof style as some versions have pretty low weight capacities. Owners manual or a Jeep dealer would be where to check that.

Thanks for your reply! I love the Yakima Big Catch carrier suggestion. This will definitely support my kayak shape. I've also confirmed that the Jeep hardtop I have can't officially support that much weight without compromising structural integrity so I'm considering something like the Rhino Rack Backbone Mounting System paired with two crossbars on the roof. That would add the rigidity and strength to support the rack and kayak. Thanks for the great advise!
