Is It Safe To Connect Tow 50 Foot 50 Amp Power Cords Together?

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 04/30/2025

Question:

I have two 50 foot 50 amp power cords - one from a previous RV and one from our current RV. When needed for a power pedestal further away than 50 feet, can I connect those two cords together to reach a distance of up to 100 feet? If so, can I connect them end-to-end directly together or do I need some sort of adapter? Would connecting them together be safe to do?

Hello Debbie, thanks for reaching out. Yes it is safe to connect tow 50 foot 50 amp power cords together. The only problem you may run into is the voltage drop with such a long run of wire. So you may not get the full 50 amps to the RV. Generally for runs over 100' you would want to use larger gauge wire like 4 gauge. There are no 100 foot 50 amp cords available though so the only way would be to make your own and 4 gauge 3 wire can be expensive.

Plugging the two cords together will work though, you just might not get all 50 amps.

Hey Debbie, how did it go with connecting the two 50-foot power cords? I'm curious if the setup worked well for you, as it could help others considering a similar solution.
