Choosing Between Firestone and Air Lift Air Bags for 2014 Chevy Silveardo 2500 Duramax

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 04/24/2025

Question:

Good evening, I have a 2014 Duramax 2500 HD that is leveled. Do you recommend 5000 or 7500 airbag suspensions for my 14K LBS 5th wheel on a pullright hitch? Also, do you recommend airlift or firestone. Which is better? Thank you, Daniel

Hey Daniel! I'll start by giving you my brand recommendation. Firestone is hands down the best option every time. Their air bags are significantly more durable so you know you can count on them. They rolled crimp seal keeps them securely anchored on their end plates and they don't have issues with bottoming out.

As far as the capacity is concerned, the 5,000 lb Firestone # F2613 is likely more than enough but, the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label # F2709 only costs a tiny bit more right now so I would go with the higher capacity. These are compatible with an in-bed hitch so it won't interfere with your PullRite setup.

Since you're towing a 5th wheel I also recommend adding an air compressor like the Pacbrake Single Channel Wireless Air Spring Controls # PB49MV. This will allow you to control the air pressure no matter where you go from the cab of your truck. The system is capable of the 150 psi needed for the Red Label air bags. It comes with a remote and can also be operated via the app on your phone.

Hey Daniel, did you decide to go with the Firestone Red Label air bags and the Pacbrake air compressor for your Duramax? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, as it could help others with similar towing setups.
