Can Advent AC Unit Replace Old Duo-Therm Penguin AC Unit?
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
Hi-I have a 2000 Monaco Windsor RV, the 40foot model. It has the two original Duo-Therm Penguin air conditioners, and the front one has died. Im considering the Advent ACDOM150 as a replacement. The thermostat is the original DuoTherm also, and has an output that is 2-wire and looks like a telephone landline plug. The etrailer listing for the ACDOM150 says it isnt compatible with Duo-Therm systems, but it looks like it would be, except for the wiring plug. Is there any other reason that it wouldnt work for my situation? I see that etrailer sells the other half of the wiring harness, so I could easily splice that in to the RV. As its getting hot here in Southern FL, its time to get a unit! Thanks for your advice. in health,

Hello Richard, thanks for reaching out. You are correct the Advent AC Units like part # ACM150 are generally not going to be compatible with the Duo-Therm AC systems. Especially since your current unit is so old. Your best option will be to replace your distribution box and thermostat with one from Advent. This is the only way we can guarantee everything will work together and the thermostat will intercommunicate with the controller correctly.
We offer this as a full kit that comes with everything you would need. For that, I recommend the following:

Hi Jesse, and thanks for your reply. I wouldn't need the air distribution plate as the system is ducted. But, I could easily wire in a new electrical distribution box, so that's nice. Does the thermostat in this package connect the the rooftop AC unit via wires or wifi/wirelessly? I don't mind having two thermostats, one for front and one for rear, but pulling new wires through on an older rig isn't fun. TIA, Richard
