Updated 04/16/2025 | Published 04/13/2025

Question:

Hey guys, would it be possible to get a pdf with diagrams of the install instructions for the universal brake controller wiring kit? I was in the midst of installing when I moved to a different project for a couple of days and now I cant find the printed instructions my barn is a bit messy... Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Hello Celia,

I attached the instructions to the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 90885 that you ordered back in 2018, hopefully that is the controller you are working with . They don't really go over the wiring directions in there, so hopefully this helps:

Installation Instructions:

-Mount the Brake Controller:

Follow manufacturer instructions for securely mounting the controller under your dash within easy reach and line of sight.

-Route the Pigtail:

Plug the 7894 pigtail into the back of your Tekonsha or Draw-Tite controller.

Route the wires under the dash toward your vehicle’s existing brake controller wiring or toward the firewall if hardwiring to the engine bay.

-Connect Wires:

Black (12V) ? Connect to a fused 12V power source, ideally from the vehicle's fuse box or battery (use a 20-30A inline fuse if direct to battery).

White (Ground) ? Connect to a clean metal surface on the chassis or directly to the negative battery terminal.

Red (Brake signal) ? Connect to the cold side of the brake pedal switch, which only has voltage when the brake is pressed.

Blue (Trailer brake output) ? Connect to the blue wire going to the 7-way trailer connector at the rear of the vehicle.

-Secure Connections:

Use butt connectors or solder and heat shrink tubing for solid, weather-resistant connections.

Neatly bundle and secure wires with zip ties.

-Test the System:

Plug in a trailer or use a brake controller tester.

Press the brake pedal and confirm the controller wakes up.

Use the manual override to confirm brake lights and trailer brakes activate.
