Info Needed to Pick Out Smaller Tire to Allow Trailer to Fit in Garage

Updated 04/01/2025 | Published 03/25/2025

Question:

I am looking to replace the very rugged ST235-75R15 tires that my 1575 lb Little Buggy 12LRK tear camper came with with something a bit smaller so it fits in my garage and that gets better gas milage. Ideas? Thanks!

Hey Lindsay, how much height are you wanting to drop so that it would fit in your garage? I would need to know that to determine how much smaller of a tire you'd need to go with.

Jameson - We are hoping to drop the height of the camper by 2-3 inches if possible. Could we get away with a 14 of 13 inch rim? Thanks! Lindsay

@Lindsay You'd have to go down to a 13 inch tire and wheel to pull that off. For that we have the 185/80-13 like the part # AM3S339. Each of these has a 1,660 lb capacity so you'd need to make sure your trailer isn't too heavy.

@JamesonC The trailer has a UVW of 1575. Would that work? Is there a reason you suggest a 185 instead of a 175? Really want a durable tire that will not blow on the highway. Have had that happen on our old trailer too many times. Thanks.

@Lindsay Weight capacity would be no problem. The 185 is slightly larger but it would put you into the height reduction range you are wanting. The larger size will have a bit more capacity so that's why I recommended it.
