Looking For Aluminum Wheels With Stainless 1/2" Lug Nuts For Tandem Axle Boat Trailer

Updated 03/12/2026 | Published 03/09/2026

Question:

I'm close to ordering 5 of these Tire/Wheel combos for my tandem axle boat trailer. My questions are: 1. What is the minimum length required for the studs/bolts from the face of the hub to the end of the stud for enough threads to mount the wheel? My studs extend exactly 1 inch from the face of the hub so how long will the stud be for the nuts to secure the wheel. 2. My trailer also has UFP surge brakes, is this a problem for this wheel? 3. I would need some new nuts as well and want to get Stainless Steel nuts 20 needed Thank you

Hey Darrell, thanks for your questions and business!

The Kenda Karrier KR35 ST185/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 13" Black Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 # KE54TJ, like most trailer wheels, just requires that the lug nut is at least flush with the end of the wheel stud, but it's always better if the stud is a bit longer if at all possible. These take a 1/2" diameter studs and nuts.

As far as the surge brakes concern, you won't have to worry as that doesn't affect the wheel and tire at all.

For lug nuts that are stainless steel, I'd look at the Americana standard Trailer Wheel Lug Nut - Stainless Steel - 1/2"-20 - Qty 1 # AM26NR or the longer Americana Trailer Wheel Lug Nut - 7/8" Diameter - Stainless Steel - 1/2" - 20 # AM90070 if your studs are longer than usual.

Let me know if you have any other questions! What kind of boat trailer are these going on?
