Recommended Safety Chains for a Shocker Hitch Quick Air Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Pin Box

Updated 10/29/2025 | Published 03/02/2025

Question:

Dose the shocker SHK47YR have safety chain connections in the pin box part it looks like it in the photo. If so what safety chains do you recommend. I wouldn’t need the kit as the pin box already has chain pint built in. I plan to install this on a 2020 Flagstaff 529RBS. Also was wanting a suggestion on a complete air bag set up for my 2005 6.0 Ford F250. I want the air pump to be able to air the tires up on camper they need 110psi.

Hey Carl, thanks for the pics! You are correct the Shocker Hitch Quick Air Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Pin Box item # SHK47YR does have the built in chain attachment point. You can use the Reese Safety Chain Kit with Clevis Hooks item # RP49151.

It looks like from your picture the Shocker item # SHK47YR is exactly what you need for your 2020 Flagstaff 529RBS. It only works with the Lippert or Curt Turning Point 5th-wheel pin boxes.

For a set of air bags on your 2005 Ford F-250, I recommend the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs item # F2398 if your truck is a 2WD or item # F2400 if yours is a 4WD. These air bags have a 5,000 lbs capacity that will level out the rear end of your F-250 when you are towing your 5th wheel trailer. All mounting brackets and hardware are included for installation.

To add an air compressor capable of filling up your tires, I recommend adding the Firestone Air Command Heavy Duty Air Compressor item # F56VV to your truck. This onboard compressor will allow you to adjust the PSI in your air bags from your phone. The heavy duty compressor has a 150 psi capacity.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to throw them in the comment box below and I'll be happy to help you.

Hey Carl, how did the Shocker Hitch pin box and Reese safety chain kit work out on your Flagstaff? I'm also curious if the Firestone air bags and compressor gave you the lift and tire pressure support you needed. Your update could make it easier for others setting up a similar truck and trailer combo.

@Carl That is great to hear! Think you'll still go through with the new pin box or have the air bags solved all of your ride quality issues?
