Replacement Leaf Springs for Single Axle Boat Trailer

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/16/2025

Question:

I have an older single axel trailer so springs may have already been replaced. Hanger spacing is approx. 26-3/4inch inches with 2.25 Shackles. The existing springs are 26-14inch inches. Should I be purchasing 27inch springs and 2-58inch Shackles? Also trailer and boat weight is 3000-3200 pounds should I have 1750lb leaf springs or 2000lb leaf springs?

Hey Rick! The best way to find replacement leaf springs is using your current leaf spring measurement and your axle capacity. Did you measure spring eye to spring eye or did you take the flat measurement? I attached an article below which explains both. Either way, 27" would be too long for a replacement and cause problems.

If your current leaf springs are flattened out I would expect something like the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/8" Long # e54SR to work. These measure 25-1/8" spring eye to spring eye but the flat measurement is 26-3/8" which falls in line with your 26-1/4" measurement.

If you can find your axle capacity that would be great but, if I had to guess I would say you have 3,500 lb axles so the 1,750 lb rated leaf springs would be appropriate. Since you have a 2-1/4" measurement you want to stick with 2-1/4" shackles like the # LC122487.

Hey Rick, how did things turn out with the 4-leaf double-eye springs and 2-1/4 shackles for your trailer? Did the fit and ride height end up where you wanted them? Your update could make it easier for the next person working on a similar setup.
