What Is The Min/Max Startup Amperage For The Furrion Chill Cube AC Unit?

Updated 06/23/2026 | Published 02/04/2025

Question:

What are the min/max current draws? Is the start up draw more than the stated 11.6 amps? Will this unit benefit from a soft start?

Hey Myron, thanks for reaching out. We just installed and tested one of these Chill Cube units here in our install bay a few hours ago, and we tested the amp draw. With just the fan running it was pulling only like 0.5 amps. It is pretty cold here in Missouri and our install bays are not very warm, so we had to trick the compressor into kicking on by holding a heat gun up to the thermostat. With the compressor on it was pulling about 5 - 5.5 amps. But again, it is pretty cold here so it was not cooling at its full capability, meaning we also couldn't get an accurate reading for the startup amps.

I checked with my contact at Lippert and they said there really is not a concrete number they can give for the startup amps. The amp draw will be anywhere between 10-18 amps and even higher than that for startup.

That said, you cannot use a soft start with the Chill Cube units. That functionality is already built in to the unit, so there would be no need for one and no benefit.

Hey Myron, did you get a chance to test your Chill Cube once the weather warmed up to see what the startup amps looked like? Knowing how it performed in real conditions could really help others trying to size their power setup.

I have not checked with Furrion but I'm 99.9% sure you cannot use a "soft start" with an "Inverter AC" like the Chill Cube. Nor would you want or need to. The "inverter" term generally means they are using variable speed DC motors which the circuitry will "ramp up" so no soft start is needed. Soft Start is already built in. Inverter Air Conditioners are going to run the soft start companies out of business eventually.

@MarkT Hey Mark, you are absolutely right. You cannot use a soft start with the Chill Cube units. That functionality is already built in. The answer above is older and I wrote that like right when the Chill Cube was first released, so none of us were that familiar with it at that point. I'll go ahead and get that edited. Sorry for any confusion, you are totally right.
