Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/04/2025 >
Question:
What are the min/max current draws? Is the start up draw more than the stated 11.6 amps? Will this unit benefit from a soft start?

Hey Myron, thanks for reaching out. We just installed and tested one of these Chill Cube units here in our install bay a few hours ago, and we tested the amp draw. With just the fan running it was pulling only like 0.5 amps. It is pretty cold here in Missouri and our install bays are not very warm, so we had to trick the compressor into kicking on by holding a heat gun up to the thermostat. With the compressor on it was pulling about 5 - 5.5 amps. But again, it is pretty cold here so it was not cooling at its full capability, meaning we also couldn't get an accurate reading for the startup amps.
I checked with my contact at Lippert and they said there really is not a concrete number they can give for the startup amps. The amp draw will be anywhere between 10-18 amps and even higher than that for startup. These units do not have start capacitors, so yes, this unit would benefit from a soft start. Hopefully by this spring/summer we should have more concrete numbers for the startup amps, once we can really test it.

Hey Myron, did you get a chance to test your Chill Cube once the weather warmed up to see what the startup amps looked like? Knowing how it performed in real conditions could really help others trying to size their power setup.
