If I Want to Switch from My Current Equal-i-zer Hitch to a Different System, What Should I Get?
Question:
Hello, We have a 2020 F250 with a GVW of 10,000 lbs with a max towing weight of 12,000 lbs, we’re towing a 2019 ORV RKS270 with a GVW of 11,000 Lbs. our Cat Scale weight shows our front axle is 3700 lbs, rear axle is 6,820, the trailer weighs 10,460 lbs and we currently are using a Equal-I-zer rated at 10,000 lbs springs. With the truck being a bit overweight I’m looking to distribute weight and run the minimum TW of 10, then reducing or moving any additional weight to the trailer. We travel a lot and I’d like to reduce sway as well. I guess my question is I’m looking at the Weight Safe Heavyweight hitch with what I would think would be the 12,000 spring arms. We’re full timers and I really want to open the tailgate while we travel. Can you make some recommendations on ing the right size hitch and spring arms. We’re in Yuma for several more weeks and I’d like to get the hitch ordered asap. Thank you, feel free to call me if it would save time.

Hello Tom,
Thank you so much for the detailed information, especially having the Cat Scale weight so we know how your weight is distributed. I wish every customer was as thorough as you are.
I really like the Equal-i-zer system that you have been using, the straight bars with the brackets give you better sway control than the systems with the chains. As you can see the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch # WS94RR is designed the same way. What really makes the Weigh Safe stand out from the others is having the scale on it so you can find that "sweet spot" (as they like to call it) when installing the system so you can get the maximum performance.
Another great feature about the Weigh Safe is where the ball sits. I attached a video that my buddy Brad in video put together where you will see that he is able to put the tailgate all the way down while the weigh safe is installed. That is huge! With other systems you would need to purchase a really long shank to get it past the tailgate, and who wants to have to purchase extra parts when they don't have to?
If you are going to change from the Equal-i-zer to a different system then the Weigh Safe is going to be the way to go. The spring bars will be stronger giving you an extra 500 pounds of tongue weight, but what is really going to make it better is having the scale on the ball and then App. After you attach the trailer to the ball it is going to tell you your tongue weight, then you open the App answer a couple of questions and it tells you exactly where to install the system. So that takes all the guess work out for you while giving you that maximum performance I mentioned before.
The Weigh Safe is still fairly new to etrailer which is why there is not many reviews. Our installers have tested the product and are excited about it, when they get excited about a product we know it's going to be awesome! So after you get things set up please let me know how you like it.
So you mentioned you are in Yuma now for a couple of weeks, where is the next adventure? Knowing that you travel a lot I have to ask you, what is the one place that you have been to that completely just wowed you like it was out of a dream? I am always looking for new places to check out and I have learned there is no one better to ask than our customers.
One last thing I like to remind people for when they are out on the road, we are just a call away, and we can get you the part you need in a hurry. So if you ever find yourself in a bind just give us a call, a real person will answer your call and we will get you taken care of.
Safe Travels!

Good morning Kate, My truck has a 2,1/2 receiver after emailing you yesterday I think the WS54RR will work perfectly. The sway control is as important as the weight distribution and knowing the TW. I was also looking at the ProPride but after watching some reviews on YouTube and knowing the additional costs I think I’ll chose the Weigh Safe. My wife and I have a small lot in Western NY in a beautiful place we spend the summer. We work the Beet Harvest in Michigan then travel south thru Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama to the gulf coast and spend a month in South Padre Island before heading west to Arizona. One of my favorite places is southern New Mexico in the Gila National Forest. That forest is amazingly beautiful to me, and very quiet and not super well known. But it’s hard to nail down any one spot. You must absolutely see southern Utah! We love traveling and meeting people. Everyone has a story! Love Life and enjoy what this country has to offer. Thanks for the insight! Tom
