Video Transcript for Installing the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver on a 2022 Infiniti QX60

Hi, this is Scott with etrailer. Today we're taking a look at and installing our etrailer hitch for our 2022 Infiniti QX60. Right outta the gate, I really like the way this hitch looks on our Infiniti. I particularly like the flat black look that these have on 'em. It kind of matches some of our trim and it just doesn't stand out as much with the flat black. And so, I really like that.

Another thing I like about this one is this one's gonna be a hidden cross tube design. So, your cross tube's gonna be hidden behind your fascia, so you're not seeing that all the time. All you're gonna see is just your receiver portion of your hitch hanging down. Now, another thing with this one is it's gonna be really corrosion resistant and hold up to scratching really well because it has a really strong thick powder coat on it, so it's gonna hold up to the elements really well. One of the things we get asked a lot, if your kick sensor's still gonna work when you get this hitch installed and the answer is yes, it will work with this one.

(sensor beeps) (latch clicks) This hitch is gonna have a five eighths pin hole opening, so that's gonna hold in any of your accessories that you put in the back. Now, this hitch won't come with a pin and clip, so you may wanna pick one up here at etrailer, but any of your accessories now usually come with a pin, so kinda check that. Another nice option for these is a locking pin. What that allows you to do is, say you're out on the trail and you have your nice bike rack on the back while you're down the trail. The locking pin's gonna allow you to lock your bike rack to the vehicle while you're on down the trail so you don't have to worry about anyone taking that off.

This hitch is gonna have really heavy duty, welded-on chain loops and it's gonna accept either your S-style loop (chain jingles) or your clevis style hook. So, either of those are gonna work for your trailer towing needs. Now, as far as measurements go, from the center of the pin hole out to the edge of your bumper, we're looking at right at about three inches. And with that number you're gonna be able to figure out if any of your accessories that fold up are gonna make contact with the back of your vehicle. Now, from the top of our receiver to the ground, (tape measure slides) we are looking at a measurement of right around 12 and a half.

(tape measure snaps) With that measurement, you'll be able to decide on if you need any rise in the shank of your bike rack or your cargo carriers for clearance. As far as weights go for this hitch, we're looking at a tongue weight rating of 900 pounds and that's gonna be the weight of your cargo carriers loaded down with all your gear, or your bike racks all loaded down with all of your bikes, pushing down on this portion of the hitch. Now, for a gross trailer weight rating, you're looking at 6,000 pounds. That's gonna be the weight of your trailer and everything that you have loaded on that. Now, keep in mind it's always a good idea to double check on your owner's manual and make sure you're not exceeding any of your maximum towing capacities that are listed in your manual. It's always a good idea to just go with the lowest number between your hitch and your manual to be safe. And if you do plan on doing any towing with this hitch, which you can do, I do recommend picking up a trailer wiring kit and possibly taking a look at the etrailer ball mount kit as well. Now, if you have any questions or comments about this hitch for your Infiniti, feel free to leave any comments or questions below or give us a call here at etrailer. As far as installation goes, this one is pretty straightforward and it's something you should be able to do in your driveway or your garage. If you don't have time to do that, you can take a look at our dealer locator and get something done for you locally. If it's something you feel like tackling yourself, stick around, watch our video and we'll help you get it installed. To start our installation, we have our hatch open in the back of our Infiniti and one of the things we're gonna do to make it a little bit easier on us, and give us a little bit more room, is we're going to lower our spare. So, if we open up our hatch on our passenger side, down in our little plastic cargo area, you're gonna have this little cover, just gonna turn that. Now, down inside of there there's gonna be a 21 millimeter nut and all we're gonna do is back that down until our spare comes all the way down and we can remove it from underneath of our vehicle. (tool rattles) Now that we have that down, pull our little keeper through. And now we can pull our tire out of the way. (tire bounces) Now, to make it a little easier and give us a little access to our weld nuts, what I want to do is I got my exhaust supported, so I just wanna pull off these resonators and we've got one here and we also have one back here. Now, what that's gonna allow me to do is take my cam buckle strap and just let my exhaust down a little bit and that's gonna give me a little more room to get my hitch in place. So, keep in mind anything we do on one side, you're gonna repeat on the other. So, what I did it, is I just sprayed a little penetrant up in these three weld nuts, and what I'm gonna do is just take a tube brush and just clean out these threads a little bit to make sure we don't have no dirt, debris or rust in there. It's gonna make it a little bit easier for us to install our hardware. One thing I recommend is taking your hardware that comes in your kit and through all of your holes, just run your hardware in and then take your ratchet, with your 19 millimeter socket and run those up a ways. (ratchet rasps) And what this is gonna do is basically clean out your threads and it's gonna make it a whole lot easier to get your hardware installed when you get your hitch up, put in place. (ratchet rasps) That's what I would do. (ratchet rasps) Just do that a couple times, run 'em up and down through each hole and that's gonna clean the threads out. Now, I did notice when I first started doing this that it was a little hard to get 'em started, so just take your time, use some spray and just spray, keep spraying them up in there. As you can see, a lot of debris will come out with those, so just run along through all of your holes and it's gonna make it a whole lot easier to get your hardware in place when your hitch is lifted up. Now, as far as our hardware is concerned, we're gonna have our bolt that comes in our kit and we're gonna have our conical tooth washer. When we install these, we want to make sure that we have our teeth facing up towards the hitch and we're gonna be using these three weld nut locations, right there on our frame, on both sides. Now, we're gonna end up having to trim our lower fascia here so one thing I like to do is feel around and look up under the back of our fascia. And as you can see, we have a kick sensor wire here. So, what I like to do is this will just pull right out of these little tabs. I like to get that moved out of the way, so that way I don't have any issues when I do my trimming 'cause we don't wanna run into that wire. But just kind of get it moved out of the way for now. That way it's away from the area you're going to trim. Now, you're gonna have another one up here as well. If you feel more comfortable with moving it, you can go ahead and do that as well. (wires rattle) (wires rattle) (wires rattle) Just remember, the one that you have up top, we have a white wire, so that'll be our upper one and then our yellow one will be our lower. We have it marked out where we're gonna have to trim to get our hitch to fit and we went ahead and went by the instruction manual for our measurements and just marked it out with some blue tape. Now, I'm gonna come back with a multi-tool and just go ahead and get that cut. (multi tool buzzes) (multi tool squeals) (multi tool buzzes) (Scott sings) (multi tool buzzes) (multi tool switch clicks) (Scott hums) And that's gonna be our kick sensor panel. I'm gonna have to trim that out a little bit more there as well. (multi tool buzzes) (multi tool squeals) Now, to finish cutting that, I'm just gonna take my snips and snip that plastic off. Now, to clean up around this, what you can do is you can take a utility knife or a file, whatever you have around, and just kinda take off these little rough edges around this. Or you can just take your fingers and just pull those right off. They should roll right off there for you. Now, we can get our hitch lifted into place. It's a good idea to have a extra set of hands to help you with this. (hitch clangs) (hardware clinks) Get our hardware put in place. (hardware rattles) (hardware rattles) Now, we wanna make sure our hitch is centered up in the back of our vehicle and our hitch will move side to side just a little bit. After we get it where we want it, we can come back through and snug down our hardware. (tool bursts) (tool bursts) (tool bursts) (tool bursts) Now, we'll come back through and torque down all of our hardware to the specifications listed in our instruction manual. Now, if you don't have a torque wrench, you can pick one up here at etrailer. We do have a few options available. Or you can take a look at your local auto parts store. You should be able to rent one there. (torque wrench beeps) (torque wrench beeps) Now, we can get our exhaust put back in place. Just want to pop on our isolators. And now we can remove our strap. (strap rattles) Now, don't forget to get your sensor wires put back in place. Those are just gonna pop down into their clips, the same way they came out. Now, a lot of people ask, when we install their hitches, if their spare tire is gonna fit back in the place where it was. And the answer is yes, with this one it will fit. You may have to just push your spare tire forward, just a little bit, when you're bringing it up, just to get clear of your receiver here that hangs down. Other than that, it fits perfect. And that was a look at the etrailer hitch for our 2022 Infiniti QX60. I'm Scott with etrailer and thanks for watching.
