Correct Wedge Kit for B&W Patriot With Sidewinder

Updated 12/04/2024 | Published 12/03/2024

Question:

I have the ST500-SW16K Sidewinder which mounts to a BandW Patriot 18k, and I am pretty sure this part wedge kit is missing and I wanted to be sure if this was the correct wedge replacement I needed for this model. Also I noticed that the previous owner reported that he would annually grease the hitch and torque it to the factory recommendations. Any information on how t remove and grease the component and what grease should I be using?

Hi Steven; the 5th Airborne Custom Wedge for B&W Fifth Wheels # SWW-06 is the correct wedge kit for your Patriot # BWRVK3255 and Sidewinder setup. I went ahead and attached the hitch maintenance instructions below for your reference. This can be found on page 14 of the manual which is attached a little further down on this page. You don't really need to pull it apart for this, all you're removing is the head.

Awesome thank you! Do you happen to know the bolt size for the wedge? is it a 5/8" 11 bolt? And with lube plates, they would just install to the reese sidewinder correct?

@BoltW I don't have that bolt size handy but I can try to get it from Reese. They're pretty bad about responding so it may take a little bit. Sidewinders don't rotate on the hitch head so you don't need a lube plate. You can grease the king pin and wedge and you're set.
