Recommended Comfort Ride Shock Absorber Set Up for a Tandem Axle Trailer w/ 4,400 lbs Dexter Axles

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 11/29/2024

Question:

We have a 2016 Keystone Bullet Premiere 30RIPR travel trailer that prior to this year was used for local camping and short trips. This year we put about 8k miles on it. Although its about ten years old, its still in good shape and we plan on keeping it. I am looking at a suspension upgrade, first thought was air bags, but most recently leaf springs and shock absorbers look like a better idea. Second, looking at a disc brake upgrade. It has Dexter ezlube axles, 16 wheels on a 6 lug bolt pattern. Your thoughts and recommendations are appreciated.

Hey Ken! It looks like your 2016 Keystone Bullet Premiere 30RIPR travel trailer has 4,400 lbs axles on it but I would really appreciate it if you could email me a picture of your axle tag to confirm. Assuming you do have the 4,400 lbs Dexter EZ lube axle, to upgrade your suspension I recommend the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shock Absorbers item # RM-2460-2560. This system replaces your entire leaf spring set up and adds shocks.

The Roadmaster item # RM-2460-2560 has slipper leaf springs in it that are rated up to 5,000 lbs, while the shocks are designed for a 3" diameter axle which is most commonly 5,200 lbs - 7,000 lbs, but will include your Dexter 4,400 lbs axles as well.

This system has nitrogen-charged shock absorbers that help to eliminate trailer bouncing, chucking, and porpoising which will result in improved front-to-back, side-to-side, and up-and-down movement of your trailer for less sway and better handling.

As far as a disc brake kit goes, I would really like to take a look at your axle tag before I start recommending parts. I have quite a few options and want to give you the best set up possible.

Hey Ken, did you get a chance to confirm the axle tag and try out the Roadmaster Comfort Ride suspension kit on your Keystone Bullet? It’d be great to hear how the ride and handling changed after the upgrade. Your feedback could really help others looking to improve their trailer suspension.
