Question:
What is the California law regarding truck bed extenders? How far can the load extend beyond the edge of truck bed and/or beyond the lowered truck tailgate? I have a 13 boat that I want to carry. Inside truck clear dimension is 6-2.

Hi Sandy; we do not have any information on laws in other states regarding truck bed extensions. The best thing you can do is reach out to local or state law enforcement and ask them what the limitations are. The Malone Axis Truck Bed and Roof Load Extender with Load Roller # MAL32VR extends out 53" from the center of your hitch pin hole when in the horizontal position.
If I had to take a guess the law probably doesn't restrict an actual extender but requires a flag or some other identification if anything in your truck extends a certain distance back. In this case your boat would be the furthest back so in addition to asking about a truck bed extender I would ask if what you need to do for a boat that extends 7' beyond the end of the bed.
