Will 8,000LB Trailer Leaf Springs Improve Ride Quality On Grand Design 7,000LB Axles?
Updated 07/26/2025 | Published 11/13/2024 >
Question:
Our original 6-leaf springs on our Grand Design ST310GK with 7000 axels seems light. We are heading to Alaska next year and want to see if these 7-leaf 8000 springs would work better. Please note the photo which looks like our existing springs sitting with full weight look bent..... Thanks NOTE I WAS UNABLE TO UPLOAD PHOTO NO MATTER HOW SMALL I MADE IT. Please let me know and I can email it.

First off by moving to heavier leaf springs you will cause the trailer to want to bounce more which could cause another set of issues. To ensure the length of the springs are correct I can use the information off the axle tag located on the center of your axle to find the information.

But you have 2 different people saying they worked good going to the 8k vs 7k spring. I'm thinking of doing the same with a 18k toyhauler w 7k axles (3) yes it may make it a little more rough but will also ride better with cargo in the rear. I do understand it won't change the over all weight it can handle but like one guy said it was heavier on the driver side (that's where biggest s/o is and the fuel tanks are )
