All Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2023 Ford Escape PHEV & Difference Between Wiring

Updated 11/07/2024 | Published 11/05/2024

Question:

Collecting information needed to flat tow a 2023 Ford Escape PHEV. Knowing I will need the baseplate, tow bar, cables, and a braking system. My question is about the wiring kit. I didnt see a kit that has direct factory connectors and appears the recommendation is RM-15267 and splice that in. What is the difference to the C55VV which is used if I wanted to tow something behind the Escape. Is one an output C55VV and what is needed is an input which is provided from the motorhome? Was hoping to avoid splicing. Appreciate your time.

Hi Mike,

So starting with the wiring, the T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C55VV you mentioned isn't for flat towing, it's for towing a trailer behind your 2023 Ford Escape PHEV and goes to the rear of your vehicle. You were correct there are no kits that are direct connections so you will have to splice and use a kit that goes to the front of your Escape, the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267.

I know it's not what you were looking to do, but it is necessary for your vehicle. I'll also go ahead and list out the rest of the parts needed for you below:

- Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM77GR

- Roadmaster Falcon All-Terrain Tow Bar # RM-522

- Roadmaster Safety Cables # RM-645

- Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25

- Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay # RM-88400

- Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes # SM99251

Kyle, Thanks for reply. Quick follow up question. Why the suggestion of Roadmaster vs Blue Ox? Mike

@Mike Mostly because the Blue Ox requires drilling into the frame of your Escape, while the Roadmaster doesn't. I like to recommend avoiding drilling in the frame if possible just because it can be pretty difficult.
