Which Air Lift Air Bags For 2021 Ford F-350 SRW Towing 5th Wheel to Help With Squat

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/30/2024

Question:

Is there a method or means of calculating the size of air spring system needed given the weight of payload being towed? I have a 34' 5th-wheel that when loaded to travel usually run around 14,000# and would like to know what will be a sufficiently sized suspension system to have installed to compensate for the squat my tow vehicle experiences during towing. I have a 2021 F350 SRW LB which has ample capacity to handle the weight of the Reese Goosebox hitch on my 5th-wheel, but I do experience around 3/4" to a bit more than 1" of rise on my front end when going down the road. I've been looking at the different AirLift systems available on your website, and see that they are rated anywhere between 2500 and up to 7500 pounds of lifting capacity. I'd like to be certain I choose an adequate system without purchasing overkill as capacity goes if possible. Thank you.

Hi Steve,

There isn't a specific method of calculation, but I can tell you, with the amount of squat you have, and how light your 5th wheel is, you'll want the 5,000 lb capacity Air Lift air bags. Those are actually the lightest option that fit your single rear wheel 2021 Ford F-350, and have more than enough capacity for the payload on the back of your truck while you're towing. You just want to find the right psi for the bags (so you'll have to do a bit of experimenting with the air pressure), and stick with that setting while you tow. The right fit for your truck depends on if you have 2WD or 4WD:

- 2-Wheel Drive: Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs # AL57391

- 4-Wheel Drive: Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs # AL23FJ

I also recommend considering a compressor, which will make it much easier to monitor and maintain the psi in your air bags. A wireless option is the easiest and will remember the psi with the touch of a button so you get the exact amount you need; for that use the Air Lift WirelessONE Compressor System for Air Helper Springs - Remote - Bluetooth - EZ Mount # AL25980EZ.

Hey Steve, how did things turn out with the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 on your F-350? Did adjusting the psi help level out the truck while towing your 5th-wheel? Your results could really help others trying to dial in their setup.
