Suspension Enhancement Options For 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab 4x4 Duramax

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/03/2024

Question:

On the Road Active Suspension, what do the 2,000lb. and 3,000lb. ratings refer to or mean? Obviously, its not the tongue weight or trailer weight. Im trying to decide between the RAS heavy duty or Air bags and concerned if the RAS will give me enough support. I have a new 2024 Silverado 1500 LT crew-cab 4x4 with the 3.0 Duramax and a 12,000lb. tow rating. I tow a 30ft enclosed trailer with 1,000lbs of tongue weight and weights 8,500lbs overall.

Hey Scott, thanks for reaching out. The 2,000 lb and 3,000 lb ratings are the load leveling capacity of the RAS system. So the # RAS54FR is the heavy duty kit, with the # RAS4611 being the standard duty. They will help to level your ride, but only to a certain extent. The big advantages of the RAS are the fact that it is a one-and-done install with virtually zero maintenance over time. They do work well, but an air bag kit will give you more ride leveling capability. With air bags you will be able to fine tune your suspension to get your ride perfectly level. With the RAS you will be closer to level, but maybe not perfectly level.

If you want to go with the RAS I recommend the heavy duty kit # RAS54FR. If you want to do air bags, the Air Lift # AL88288 is what I recommend. If I had to pick between the two, I would do air bags just because they are more adjustable and versatile.

Hey Scott, how did things turn out with your Silverado when comparing the heavy-duty RAS and the Air Lift air bags? Your feedback could really help others trying to decide between the two for similar towing setups.
