How To Insert 4-Flat Plug Into 18144 Mounting Bracket

Updated 09/25/2025 | Published 09/10/2024

Question:

I bought a flat 4 pin trailer accessory and a 118144 connector mounting bracket. How do I get the flat connector into the bracket. I have tried and tried but have not been able get the rubber flat connector through the oval hole in the bracket. I tried heating it up and also tried putting a little soap on it. Help! Thomas Pope

Hello Thomas, thanks for reaching out, and for your recent orders. The 4-flat plug should simply slide in from the back of the # 18144 Mounting Bracket. There is really no secret trick to it. Take a look at the video I linked below. If you fast forward to about the 1:10 mark you can see the installer insert the 4-flat plug into the bracket. Pull the dust cover off the 4-flat plug and it should slide right thru. Let me know if I can do anything to further assist.

Tried both ways with the plug through the bracket and it will not go?

@HiP Hmm interesting. What kind of 4-flat connector are you using? Like what brand? If you are sure you are doing it right the only thing I can think of is you might be using a 4-flat that somehow isn't compatible with the # 118144 bracket. It should be compatible with most 4-flats from Curt, Reese, Tow Ready and more.
