Suspension Enhancement for 2021 Ram 1500

Updated 11/12/2024 | Published 09/02/2024

Question:

Hello. I am looking for product suggestions on springs to install on my 2021 Ram 1500. I tow a 36 ft 8500 lb camper that will squat my truck pretty well. Looking for a product that will help level out my truck while towing. Thanks

Hi Chandler; you won't find helper springs like the # HE94TR you were looking at for your 2021 Ram 1500. The Ram has a coil spring suspension, not leaf springs, which limits your choices for suspension enhancement. However, I do have a couple options you can choose from to get you extra support to level out the truck.

The first is the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-307-47. These have a weight capacity of 1,500 lbs and will level your ride, absorb bumps and shocks, and minimize sway. This is the way to go if you want to install something and forget about it since they require no maintenance.

The best option is going to be adding air bags with the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Helper Springs with Internal Jounce Bumpers # AL88375. These are completely adjustable and have a load-leveling capacity of 5,000 lbs. I really like air bags because you can get them perfectly set for any trailer. You can also run them at the minimum 5 psi when you aren't towing or hauling so they won't impact ride quality.

If you choose to go the air bag route I also recommend adding an air compressor like the # AL25804. This will allow you to adjust the air pressure from the cab no matter where you go. It is a single path system so both air bags will adjust equally. If you want to adjust each air bag individually the # AL25856 is a dual path system. There are also wireless options like the # AL25980 if you don't want a gauge in the cab.

For the air bags #AL88375, does that just add an additional 5,000 of lift to the truck? For instance, my camper weighs 8,000 lbs. Will they fail and damage carrying this load, or it is just additional support? Thanks!

@ChandlerH it is just additional support to help keep you level. Even if it wasn't, the 8,000 lb camper wouldn't be a problem since that is the camper weight and not the tongue weight. There would only be 800-1,200 lbs of tongue weight on the vehicle for the air bags to help support.
