Recommendation for Hitch, Bike Rack, and Cargo Carrier on a 2005 Dodge Magnum
Question:
Hi Guys,im looking to purchase a hitch bike rack for my 2005 Dodge Magnum. I would like one that I can tilt down, so I can open the back and access the trunk while the bikes are still on the rack.Right now I dont have a trailer hitch on my car, but thats the first step. So maybe you care to weigh in on that while youre at it.I will be swapping the bike rack for a cargo carrier as needed but imagine that all models come off the hitch rather easy. Thanks for any help you have.

I recommend going with the Curt Class III Hitch, # 13465, which is designed specifically for your 2005 Dodge Magnum. Curt does require the use of Stabilizing Straps, # 18050, with all non-trailer loads like bike racks and car carriers.
For a rack that will allow access to the rear cargo area with the bikes loaded, you will want to take a look at the Thule Apex Swing Bike Carrier, # TH9027XT. This swinging rack will carry 4 bikes and is loaded with features like the cushioned anti-sway cradles.
If you will be carrying any women's, children's or alternative frame bikes, I recommend picking up the Thule Bike Adapter Bar, # TH982XT. Bikes with small or angled frames can be difficult to load on hanging style bike racks and they can cause ground clearance issues. This adapter will allow you to load the bikes easily and safely.
When it comes to choosing a cargo carrier, Curt offers the 22-1/2x49 Aluminum Cargo Carrier, # C18113, which is a favorite of mine. This carrier is lightweight and rustproof.
