How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2005 Dodge Magnum

Today in the 2005 dodge magnum were going to install curt hitch part no. 13465. This smaller hitch will look like once it is installed to the vehicle now lets going to give you a couple of measurements this will assist you as like this accessories such as the draw bar a bike rack and a cargo carrier. From the center of a hitch pin hole to the outer most edges in the bumper is 7 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 10 and a quarter inches now lets go ahead with the installation before we can begin in installing our hitch we need to first lower the exhaust as the toll of four hangers that has to be remove one in front and one behind both bumpers. To remove the hangers Im first going to spray each rubber hanger a little spray lubricate note on the passenger side there is also a ground strap that it have to be remove well set that aside for reinstallation later.

Now ready to go ahead to start removing our hanger while prying the hangars up cant be done we also have a tool that can make it easier there are two hangers from on the passenger side or to the same process on the driver side. If you are looking for an additional working remove above the mufflers you can also go ahead and remove two exhaust hangers just behind the first mufflers. And each side we have total of three attachment points here on the driver sides starting from the rear attachment point there is a well mutt the center attachment point is also well nut and our forward attachment is going to be bolt and block. Well bit that to the access hole here in the frame on the passenger side again starting from the rear attachment point is a well nut and in the forward two attachment points will be bolt and block just like the four attachment points. Lets go and get our well nuts clean out and then well get our bolt and blocks in place.

Before I put my bolt and block in place each one of the well nuts Im going to spray with some spray lubricant and then Im going to clean it out with a half inch nylon toothbrush part number 814092. Want to make sure you clean this threads out thoroughly as the vehicle gets older more dirt, dust in debris will built up in the threads making it difficult to get our hardware up into the frame. Now to get our forward and middle attachment point on the transfer side in place which will be our inch and a half by three inch block along with our half inch carriage bolt well take our full wire that provides our install kit going to the attachment point and out the access hole. Now that we have our full wire in place well go in and slide the block on and then thread on our carriage bolt. Take our block and slide up into the frame first and follow it up with our carriage bolt.

Go ahead and pull both of them in to position. Once into position were just going to remove our bolt leader so we can use it on the next attachment point now weve got our forward attachment point here on the transfer side installed or repeat the same process with the forward attachment points on the driver side. now were ready to go ahead and install our hitch I recommend to get an extra set of hands that helps you hold the hitch in place while you install your blanch nuts under the hardware that we just install in the frame be careful not to push your hardware into the frame when putting youre hitch in place. Now well just install them finger tight as we still need to line up and install our bolt in count of tooth washer it could be our forward attachment point here on the passenger sides. Well be using a half inch bolt along with a kind of tooth washer with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch.

Alright now we use this same bolt and kind of tooth washer or the forward and middle attachment on the driver side now when all our passenger install well go ahead and tighten them down. Now when all of our passengers tighten down well go ahead and tort the specification as indicated in the instructions. Now that our hitch installed and towards the specifications well go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. And with that it will complete the install of our curt hitch part no. 13465 on our 2005 dodge magnum.
