Gooseneck Ball has "Wiggle" Room in OEM Prep Package on GM
Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/07/2024 >
Question:
I have the OEM puck system GM. No matter what ball I put in, there’s some play up down and side to side. Not a lot, but will that little bit of “wiggle” cause bucking when the weight of the trailer pushes the ball? This is something we are experiencing, and trying to figure out why.

Hello Joe.
I have heard about this issue with the GM puck systems. What I have been told is that it is intentional so that the hitch ball does not seize up in the Prep Package. So it makes sense why your Reese Elite Series Pop-In Ball Kit for GM Underbed Gooseneck Hitch # RP23FR has some wiggle to it. Unfortunately, there is not a fix for this. If yours seems way too loose, I would definitely take it by your GM dealership and have them take a look. With your Silverado being a 2024, I would imagine it is still under warranty although I cannot be 100% since I do not know your driving habits.

Hey Joe, were you able to have the GM dealership check the play in your gooseneck ball? Knowing what they said about the wiggle could help others with the same puck system.
