Question:
I have a jayco jayflight slx8 237rbs camper and it has a underslung coupler on it which is something new to me and I’m wondering if I need a certain kind of wdh for it? The travel trailer has a dry hitch weight of 615 lbs and the gross vehicle weight rating is 6500lbs. I’m using a 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 ext cab to tow it. Is there a difference between a underslung wdh and a overslung wdh other than where the coupler is located?

Hello Jason. Yes, you do need a different model of weight distribution hitch for an underslung coupler. For your Jayco Jayflight SLX8 237RBS I recommend the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution w/Sway Control # BLU23FR. This system is made specifically for underslung couplers.
The difference between this system and the overslung system is the design of the head unit. More specifically the angle of the spring bars holders. The underslung bars are at a slightly lesser angle to compensate for the lower coupler, but it makes all the difference.
The # BLU23FR system is designed to work on trailers with a tongue weight between 600 and 800 lbs. So, you will be right within that range to where you will get effective ride leveling and sway control. The Blue Ox systems are super solid, they are easy to set up and they provide great results. Made here in the USA too. Just keep in mind that the frame brackets must be placed on the A-frame between 20" and 25" back from the center of the hitch ball. Please do inspect the tongue of your trailer and verify that you will have room.
Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions for me.
