Updated 07/21/2024 | Published 07/18/2024

Question:

Hello- I need to replace an axle on an old Hammerblow trailer. Its about 8 x 4.5 and looks to have a 2000 lb capacity from what Ive found. How do I go about finding an appropriate replacement axle for an old model? Thanks, Ryan

Hi Ryan; to find a replacement axle you need to know the capacity as well as the hub face to hub face measurement (which is considered the length). It is also helpful to know the spring seat measurement but the spring seats on a replacement can be cut off and moved if need be. I would check to see if there is an axle tag with the capacity if you aren't 100% sure. I also attached a video below which shows how to measure. Assuming you have a 2k axle we have the following lengths available:

-Trailer Idler Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 60" Long - 2,000 lbs # e48GR

-Trailer Idler Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 72" Long - 2,000 lbs # e78GR

Both use # L44649 inner and outer bearings and could be used with a hub like the # AKIHUB-440-2-EZ-2K. If neither of these match, and you can't find one anywhere else with the right length, you can also use a universal system. The Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension # ASR2000S01 fits any frame width so it will work with your trailer. This also replaces and upgrades your suspension so you will have an independent suspension and additional clearance.
