Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 06/27/2024

Question:

My trailer tongue weight is 1150 and my e2 spring bars are rated for 1000 my trailer seems bounce a lot going over small bumps. My question is: will upgrading my spring bars 1200 improve ride and bounce ?

Hi Steve,

You're saying your fully loaded tongue weight is higher than the spring bar capacity? I would correct that immediately with the 1,200lb capacity spring bars # FA92-02-1299 you referenced, but I don't think that will totally solve your issue. Typically if it's bouncing the spring bars are too high capacity for the tongue weight. The best course of action is to stop the road shock before it travels past your suspension. Adding in some SumoSprings to the trailer can help cushion the blows from the road and help support your leaf spring suspension.

To pick out the right kit for your trailer you'll want to check if the leaf springs sit above or below your axles and the weight capacity of the axle. There should be an axle tag stick on the axle tube that lists the capacity. Based on the tongue weight I'm guessing you probably have 5,200lb axles, but it would still be good to double check.

Hey Steve, how did things turn out after checking your axle setup and tongue weight? Did the SumoSprings help smooth out the bounce on your trailer? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with the same issue.
