Will Curt Cargo Carrier Work On Trailer Hitch on 5th Wheel Trailer

Updated 07/02/2024 | Published 06/24/2024

Question:

I have a Keystone Cougar 5th.wheel. Hitch is factory 300lb. tongue 3000 trailer. Looking at the HD Curt cargo rack. Total weight including rack would be around 110 s. Power cord, water hose chocks and leveling blocks in container. What do you think ? Will it be safe from the whip lash on the back? Thanks for any help.

Hi Lee,

I'm not sure which rack you were asking about specifically, but the most heavy-duty of the Curt cargo carriers is the Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # C18152.

This will definitely work for you and be stable behind your Keystone 5th wheel trailer, and one important aspect is its a non-folding carrier. That's what you want to go with on a trailer to ensure stability and strength, and the # C18152 has that.

To secure it to your hitch you need a pin and clip or lock, and I definitely recommend a lock, using Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # e98880. The other thing I encourage is using an anti-rattle clamp to help reduce movement of the carrier in your hitch; it isn't a necessity, just some added stability. For that use the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061.
