Recommended Weight Distribution System for 2006 Toyota Tundra Towing a 4000 lb HILO Trailer

Question:

I am considering a Pro Series PS49582 hitch for a 2006 Toyota Tundra pulling a 4000 GRW HILO Trailer that has a tongue weight of 400 lbs. Do you think this is sufficient and a good choice?

The first step in choosing a weight distribution system is to determine what we call the total tongue weight (TTW) of the trailer. TTW combines with fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer with the weight of anything stowed in the bed or cargo area, behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. Ideally, the TTW of your trailer will fall somewhere in the middle of the effective range of the system you choose. I'll link you to a help article that fully explains how to determine the TTW of your trailer.

If your TTW is indeed the 400 lbs you mentioned, then the # PS49582 which works best for trailers with tongue weights ranging from 550 to 750 lbs has a higher rating than what you'd need. If your TTW is below 550 lbs, use # PS49901. The system includes the weight distributing shank and 2-5/16 inch trailer ball.
