Brake Controller and Brake Assemblies/Drums for Harley Trailer

Published 06/12/2024

Question:

I tow a TimeOut camper with my Harley. It has the 4.80-8 inch wheels, 4 lug, with the brake flange on the axle. This trailers max weight will be under 700 pounds always. From 500-630 is the usual travel weight. What brake controller and brakes would you recommend?

Hey Gary, since you wouldn't have a ton of room to mount a brake controller on your Harley I would go with the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty part # RED52VR which only requires putting a small knob on the "dash" of your bike.

Now for brake assemblies I would need to verify what spindles you have on the trailer. Most likely it's a 2k axle spindle but I would need you to get me the bearing numbers out of the hub, the diameter of the spindle where the bearings ride, or if you can find a part number on the hubs that would work too.

Most likely the 2k rated assemblies part # 23-47-48 that you referenced would be what you would need and then for hub drums part # 8-173-16UC3.
