Generator for GE 15k Btu AC on 2021 Keystone Passport SL

Question:
Ive got a 2021 Keystone Passport SL with a GE 15K BTU air conditioner https://www.geappliances.com/appliance/Exterior-RV-Air-Conditioner-15k-ARC15AACB. What size generator would I need in order to be able to use that AC? If I installed a SoftStartRV, would it change the size of that generator? Thanks!

Hi Tony; according to GE, you need 4,600 watts to start that AC. So you would need a generator like the # 289-AP5000 with 5,000 starting watts to handle it. Installation of the SoftStartRV # SSR54FR gives you a 70% reduction so you can use a smaller generator with that installed.
I would also consider anything else that might be drawing power when the AC kicks on when choosing a generator. Personally I would choose a generator like the # 333-0005 even with the soft start. This has plenty of power and is dual fuel so you can use propane or gas which is a nice option to have.
