Electric Trailer Brake Conversion Recommendation for a 2004 Ranger Trail Boat Trailer

Updated 05/22/2024 | Published 05/20/2024

Question:

Good morning, I am looking for an upgrade for my trailer. It currently has hydraulic disc brakes and I would like to change to electric. The trailer is a 2004 Ranger Trail trailer for a boat, dual axle. Looking for recommendations and if you possibly have an upgrade kit for purchase. Thank you.

Hey Richard, thanks for reaching out!

You likely have 3,500 lb axles on your boat trailer, and if this is the case you'll need the following parts:

- Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-35-SA (1 per axle)
- Hub/Drum Kit # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K (2 per axle)
- 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 (sold by foot - needed to run from coupler to brake assemblies)
- Breakaway Battery Kit # 34-285
- Junction Box # 3430001-JBK
- 7-Way Connector # H20043

You only need the junction box and 7-Way connector if you don't already have a 7-Way wiring connector on your trailer.

If you have different axle weight ratings please let me know and I can make adjustments to the parts needed as necessary.
