T-Slot Mounting Kit For Yakima OffGrid Cargo Basket

Updated 05/28/2024 | Published 05/07/2024

Question:

Hi, I have a new Rivian R1S with the OEM crossbars. After lugging my Yakima Offgrid Cargo Basket L over to my car, and tried installing it, I learned that the T-Slot bolts that came with the basket arent long enough for the nut to catch so that I can fasten the basket down. I saw you have a replacement T-slot bolt set, but I was curious to know if what you sell is the same length as the one Yakima provides: Smart T-Slot Mounting Kit 3 part # 8007356 I need something longer. Thanks, Amadeo

Hello Amadeo. I just spoke with my contact at Yakima regarding your question. The OffGrid Cargo Basket # Y07138 does not come with T-slot mounting hardware, so I am not sure exactly what hardware you are using currently. That said, if you need to be able to mount your OffGrid basket to T-slots, the SmarT-Slot Mounting Kit for Yakima OffGrid Cargo Basket # Y07356 is what Yakima recommends using. There are no other longer T-bolts available for this though, so if the # Y07356 kit is what you already have, there is unfortunately no alternative.

Hey Jesse. The T-bolts you listed are the ones I use. What I was curious to know is if there is a longer alternative. The bolts are not long enough to get through the Rivian Crossbar channel + Rivian Offgrid bracket and still allow the nut to catch the threading on the other side. Was curious about Item #Y8880184 and if that would be long enough.

@AmadeoP I see. The T-bolts that come with the # Y8880184 are 1" long not including the head so I would compare this to what you have now.

@JesseM So, unfortunately, that bolt, while definitely long enough (1” vs the .5” on the #Y07356), it was too thick to fit through the Offgrid’s bracket holes. Is there an alternative that is narrower? Otherwise, I may still a slightly larger hole that will allow the bolt to make it through.

@AmadeoP I am sorry to say that Yakima does not offer an alternative. So unless you can find a generic T-bolt that happens to fit, carefully modifying the rack would probably be your best bet.
