Difference Between Wiring Harnesses for a 2009 Ford Flex

Question:
Hello, On your website you have multiple 4-pin wiring harnesses that fit a 2009 ford flex. I was looking at Curt Item C56343 and HM11140275 from Hopkins. The Curt system has an aux 12v wire to the battery while Hopkins does not. I only plan on occasionally pulling an 8x5 trailer for light duty. Am I likely to run into problems besides maybe the blinkers running faster if I choose the Hopkins? Thanks, Jarod

Yes, you are due to the power draw from the trailer. The dedicated 12v line that comes with the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C56343 pulls power from your Ford's battery to operate the lighting functions on your trailer. This harness will power both incandescent and LED lights without having any issues like blinker's running faster.
The Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness item # HM11140275 pulls it's power directly from the rear lights. If your trailer has a higher draw then the circuit feeding the lights power you're going to have a wide range of issues from blinking lights to the 4-way not working at all.
With this in mind, I recommend using the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C56343 for your 2009 Ford Flex. I know it requires a timely extra step but this will insure your trailer's lights will function correctly all the time.
I have linked a couple of installation videos below along with the instructions for both of these wiring harnesses.

Thanks for the info! Out of curiosity, what situations would the Hopkins part be a good choice for?
