Does the battery need to be disconnected on a 2024 Chevrolet trax to be flat towed.

Hey Lloyd!

According to pages 265 and 266 of the online owner's manual for your 2024 Chevy Trax you will need to disconnect your battery for flat towing.

Because of this I recommend checking out the Roadmaster Battery Disconnect with Switch # RM-766 to make disconnecting your battery as easy as the push of a button, along with the Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 to help ensure your battery is fully charged when you reach your destination.

Why does the Chevy Trax’s battery required to be disconnected when towing behind a motorhome. What damage would be done to the Trax if the battery stayed connected. Why couldn’t the Trax battery stay connected with power coming from the motorhome while towing?

@MikeC Chevy doesn't give any insight into why the battery needs to be disconnected. Usually a battery is disconnected to keep electronics from draining the battery, but since I don't have an exact reason as to why it needs to be disconnected, I still recommend doing so. You can still use the Battery Disconnect with Switch # RM-766 to make this easier, and the Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 because a breaking system will likely be pulling power from your battery anyways.

@Rick In addition to the parts mentioned above you'll need the 12 Volt Outlet Kit # RM-9332 which will connect directly to the battery and provide that 12V power.
