Ramps For Loading Motorized Wheelchairs In To A 2015 Ford Transit T-150 Van
Question:
Hello. I was wondering if the Mad Ramp could be used to load motorized wheelchairs through the rear doors of a 2015 Ford Transit 150 van? I would think I would need to add their Pivot Stop product to prevent the ramps from ping as the rear wheels got to the top of the ramp. From info I have read, the load height of the Transit is 28. Knowing that the rear doors swing out I believe the doors would clear the ramps while they are in transport position when we need to open the rear doors.

Hello Paul, that is a really good question. I just chatted with the folks at Mad Ramps, and they said they really cannot advise using the # MR54FR ramps for loading motorized wheelchairs into the back of a 2015 Ford Transit T-150 Van. The main concern is that the ramps would be too far apart to accommodate the wheelchairs wheelbase. The ramps cannot be moved closer together or further apart and they are designed to accommodate the standard ATV/UTV/Golf Cart wheelbases. That and if you were to use the # MR54FR ramps you would need to use the extensions # MR66DR as well as the pivot stop, which we do not carry here. All of these things considered, I feel that the Mad-Ramp system is less than ideal for this application.
My recommendation would be to use a more basic ramp system, and simply load the ramps into the fan when you are not using them. Perhaps something like the Flint Hill Goods Aluminum Car Hauler Ramp Set # FHG23ZR. This comes with two 6' long 14-1/2" wide aluminum loading ramps. They are rated for 6,000 lbs total (3,000 per ramp). They are also highly durable and lightweight, only about 22 lbs apiece.
