Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for a Short Bed Truck w/a Turnover Gooseneck Hitch

Updated 01/23/2026 | Published 01/21/2026

Question:

I have a 2014 Ram 2500 short bed with flip over ball. What do you recommend to buy for a 5th wheel travel trailer to connect to the flip over ball. From what I read I need an offset ball to gooseneck? Any suggestions would be appreciated. The 5th wheel camper weighs 10,000

Hey Dennis, welcome back! I have a couple of options for you depending on what you mean by flip over ball.

If your 2014 Ram 2500's gooseneck ball goes into a square shaped receiver like item # BWGNRK1384, then I highly recommend the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider item # BWRVK3400-5W. I attached a picture below so you can see what I mean by square shaped receiver.

The B&W Companion item # BWRVK3400-5W is designed specifically to fit in the square gooseneck receiver. It has a 20,000 lbs capacity and the base offers 12" of travel from front to back. This will give your short bed truck enough clearance when making turns and backing.

If your truck has a standard gooseneck ball that can be stored in the gooseneck receiver, I recommend the Andersen Aluminum Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection 2 Gooseneck version item # 3220. This lightweight 5th wheel hitch will attach directly to a gooseneck ball and has a 24,000 lbs capacity. This system has 4" of offset built into it. The offset will move your trailer's kingpin 4" towards your tailgate.

Does your gooseneck ball flip over into a square receiver like the picture I attached below?

My truck has the square ball in the bed. Will that ball work with the ball to gooseneck that is on a 5th wheel camper. The device connects to the ball in truck bed comes up 12 to 16” and connects to the tongue of the 5th wheel camper. I have short bed so from your video it shows I need an offset adapter

@DennisJ If your 5th wheel trailer has a gooseneck pin box like the Reese item # RP59KR or a comparable model by another manufacturer, then yes your B&W item # BWGNRK1384 gooseneck ball will work great with it. It will also work with the Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter item # AM3100. The 4" Offset Ball for B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Trailer Hitches item # BWGNXA4085 would be the only option available to add offset to your Ram's B&W gooseneck hitch. It'll push the connection point back 4" towards your tailgate.

I bought this hitch for my 2500 Ram short bed. I combined it with a Pop Up 12” extender to pull my 26’ Bison horse trailer. It works great!

I bought and installed a B&W turn over gooseneck hitch a few months ago for a my 2025 f250 powerstroke. It only took about 2 hours and I didn't have a lift or any help. Very simple to install just read the directions and maybe watch a video of the install. Im Very satisfied with the b&w turn over system so far. I've hauled a couple loads over 14,000 so far and have re checked th torque on the bolts once. Everything is great.
