Is There A Circuit Breaker For The Converter In A Progressive Dynamics Power Center
Published 02/14/2024 >
Question:
I am looking to install this in a new custom build. Is there a breaker or way to shut the converter part off when using an inverter and just use the battery for the 12v part of the panel. So it does not just create a loop draining the battery even more? I am not seeing that information. Thank you

Hi Kristie,
The converter built into the Progressive Dynamics # PD4060K does run to a circuit breaker in the AC distribution panel so you would be able to disconnect it. That being said, most inverters are designed to wire into a main and sub panel to prevent a power loop. When connected to shore power the main panel will send AC power through the inverter to the sub panel. When disconnected from shore power the inverter would then draw power from the battery to power the sub panel.
Inverters generally aren't going to power that much so they have to break off from the main panel to avoid accidentally overloading the inverter and for the power loop issue. This is all generic information for the majority of inverters on the market so I could possibly be wrong about how your specific inverter is wired in. If you could tell me the brand and model I'd be happy to doublecheck how it needs to be installed.
