Question:

I have a gmc 2024 3500 and looking at a Vanleigh be on 2019 , I want to pull it with a goose neck, I don’t want a slide in the bed , I would like to use a 4” offset ball with a gen y shock absorbing hitch What would you recommend ?

Since you're talking about an offset ball and don't want a slider it sounds like you have the 2024 Sierra 3500 short bed. Even with the offset you aren't going to be able to make a full 90 degree turn. I'm also not sure what your truck setup is like. Assuming you have the prep package you could use a 5" offset ball with the Gen-Y # GY55XR to get the best clearance. To truly find how much clearance you will have you can use the formula below:

(A + B) - C = Clearance

A = Distance from center of gooseneck opening to truck cab

B = Distance from center of coupler to trailer nose (+/-)

C = Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half)

The offset from the gooseneck ball would be added to A but you wouldn't have the other measurements until you got the trailer. You will also need to know which pin box the Vanleigh uses as well as the GVWR to choose the correct Gen-Y option. Gen-Y uses the formula GVWR x 0.22 = TW. Once you have this you can use the calculated tongue weight to find the right capacity for the pin box.

The # GY38FR you looked at works for the Lippert 1621/1621HD bolt pattern and a calculated tongue weight range of 2,600-3,599 lbs. If you have a different bolt pattern/tongue weight range I would be happy to help you find the correct pin box for your application. Again, you won't be able to make full 90 degree turns with this setup on a short bed. If that is something you need to do the only choice would be to go with a sliding 5th wheel hitch like # BWRVK3775 which is designed for the 2024 prep package.
