Can 4,000LB Trailer Leaf Springs Be Used on 3,500LB Axle To Increase Spring Life?

Question:
Hi, is it best to not load trailer leaf springs to more than about 80 of capacity to give full spring life ? And, say I put 2000lb springs on a 3500lb axle - I know that I should never overload the spring or the axle, but in this case would those 2000lbs springs last longer than 1750lb springs ?

You can go from a set of leaf springs designed for a 3,500LB # e54SR(1,750lbs per spring) capacity to springs with a 4,000LB # e57SR(2,000lb per spring) capacity. While it will then cause less wear and tear on the springs you also may notice the trailer tends to bounce more as the stiffer springs will not deflect as much and cause the shock to transfer more through the trailer. Personally I feel the best option is to stay with the same 3,500lb springs and install the SumoSprings for Overslung # TSS-107-40 or Underslung # TSS-106-40 axles. These provide an additional 500lbs of stability similar to the larger springs but will instead help to cushion road shock rather than bounce like the heavier springs.
